My New Old Diet

I’ve decided to tighten up on my diet habits by trying to eat more wholesome and natural food to get closer to what nature intended for us to eat! I decided that I don’t want to put any of the processed crap into my body anymore. No more chips, kielbasas, dry cereals, bread or milk. Basically, if I can’t buy it in its raw natural state, I won’t eat it!

My goals are to have more energy, feel better physically and hopefully loose a little weight. I have two little kids and I need as much energy as I can possibly master to keep up with them and the household, and maybe have a little extra left for things that I enjoy doing for myself. Health wise I don’t have much to complain about, but there is definitely room for improvement. I do get occasional colds and quite often I get cold sores inside my nose. My nails have become brittle and I was told by my dentist that I am loosing the gum bone. Both of these are more likely due to two pregnancies and the breastfeeding. As far as weight, ideally I would like to loose about 15 pounds, which would put me down to pre-kids weight.

So far it’s been a few days since I’ve started and I’m feeling good. I don’t have restrictions of how much I eat, just what I eat. My cravings have subsided, but I still do crave the ‘bad’ things. The worst time is when I have to feed them to my two-year old. It’s hard not to take a bite off of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich or take a sip of cold milk.

Gosh, sometimes I wish we lived in a time before all the processed foods came around and made our lives a bit easier…at lease at the first glance. I am thinking about growing some veggies on my back porch. After all we do live in FL. I don’t have a green thumb though…that’s what my husband says :) . But it wouldn’t hurt to try.

I’m also trying to instill healthy eating habits to my son. Given that his menu is limited to 5 things at this time due to his own choice, it presents a problem.

P.S. Publix sells freshly made peanut butter in the Deli. I cant say that they dont add anything artificial, but it doesn’t have a long shelf life – that should say something. I buy Smuckers Natural peanut butter – peanuts and a little salt.

Wow, let me know how the garden is coming along. Plants and I don’t mix very well either.

My daughter prefers junky food to healthy, so I just don’t give her any junk. At first she refused to eat the healthy stuff, but eventually came around. It’s a constant battle, lol!
