  1. in order for cloth diapers to work, you need to have a protective cover, like plastic pants. I know Gerber makes some of those too, you can buy them in packs of 3 at WalMart last time I checked. They’re reusable, just like the cloth itself.
Also you may want to look into getting prefold diapers rather then just flat.
    Happy cloth diapering!

  2. If you sew, you can make diapers re-using fabrics from your home (old flannel sheets, t-shirts, etc.) or new fabric purchased from the fabric store. There are free patterns on the web. You can make all-in-one diapers or regular cloth diapers with separate covers, but you do have to have something on the outside that is waterproof and keeps the wetness on the inside. Another eco-friendly option is “g diapers”, but they aren’t low cost, they’re a little more than regular disposables. I’m just getting started on using cloth diapers myself, it’s a fun thing to start once you get into it a bit, almost addicting to sew new cute little diapers!

  3. i would not recomend using the gerber covers. they are vynal and not breathable, you little one will get horriable rashes. some good cloth diaper reasources are http://www.allaboutclothdiaers.com, and http://www.kellyscloset.com. that is where i order my diapers from. i have been cloth diapering for 6 months no. I use one size that fit from birth to potty training. I use happy heinys. another good one is bum genius. I just ordered soft bums and cant wait to try them out. each diaper is about $20, so it is an inital investment but will pay for it self over time. if you are wanting a cheeper way get chinese prefolds and a PUL cover and i recomend snappies, so you do not have to use any pins. All this can be found at kellys closet. Hope you find something that works for you.

  4. You should check out http://www.diaperpin.com for cloth diapers ideas. There are lots of inexpensive, all-natural cloth diaper options. Prefolds are a great, absorbent, low cost diapering option. But you do have to have some kind of cover over them. Check out that website, and the Diaper Pin forums, and you will learn more than you ever thought possible about cloth diapers.

  5. Yes Gerber Diapers are a JOKE. They are even a waste for use as a dishrag.

The Best folded diaper I have found is a receiving blanket. you can see a great way to fold one from You Tube on my myspace page http://www.myspace.com/dsmteenygreenies

http://www.diaperswappers.com has wonderful work at home moms and if you are willing to try used, you can get an amazing assortment of diapers for extremely cheap. my original stash consisted of 18 Mother ease one size diapers, 5 covers, 24 MotherEase “doublers” 6 pocket diapers size small from a stay home mom. This easily would have honestly been enough to get me through potty training – my total cost was under $500. some were new by getting the sample packs, some were new because people bought lots and didn’t use them, others were used. Later I added all sorts of other diapers (well over 200 diapers have graced my daughters bum) my total cost has still been less than I would have paid for generic disposables – and I have some really adorable custom made diapers, and even Bamboo Velour diapers too! If you would like some help finding affordable diapers feel free to give me a buzz at dsmteenygreenies@aol.com

  6. Great video post. I do think that Gerber is out of its league here being in the business. If you are going to use an organic cloth diaper, it needs to come from a company with a reputuation of making organic products. Just my 2 cents.
